Around Vancouver: Raw Canvas
Paige Faraci and Steve Merkley
www.raw-canvas.com

What is Raw Canvas?
Raw Canvas is a progressive culture that challenges the status quo. We
celebrate diversity while recognizing that we are all one. We are the
renaissance; art, food, wine, music, poetry, love, community.

Where did the idea originate?
There’s a really cool spot in HK called Art Jam. The seed was planted
there. But really, it came from our hearts and from our passion to help
people to wake up to a new kind of living.

Interview with Yelp’s Community Manager: Crystal Henrickson

What is Yelp?
Yelp is a website that connects people to great local businesses. A place where you can read and write reviews, post and find out about upcoming events and a social network built on common interests, from eating out to shopping, clubbing to art gallery crawling, there’s something for everyone!

What is your position?
I’m the Community Manager for Vancouver: online hostess, party planner and a bit of a foodie, all rolled into one!

Why does Yelp like getting involved in community events like Make It?
The community, and I really get into supporting locally made stuff which makes Make It an awesome fit. Plus, we get to see the community in person while spread the yelping good word. This will be our 3rd Make It and hanging at our booth is just too much fun to resist… not to mention shopping for treats on our breaks!

Yelp seems to always have a super funky booth! What can Make It shoppers expect to see this time?
Are you feeling lucky? :p This year there will be a enough prizes to throw you into a tizzy, or maybe just make you dizzy with the “Wheel of Yelp.”

What is the highlight of your day?
Discovering something new about Vancouver: whether that’s a new dish to eat or an event that’s just been announced, Vancouver is constantly exciting and inspiring.

If the world was ending where and what would you eat?
To start, Boneta’s beet salad, a plate of Twisted Fork’s mussels, La Brasserie’s fries, an expertly crafted cocktail from Simon Ogden’s bar at Voya and Pourhouse’s chocolate cake with salted caramel ice cream for dessert all while watching the sunset from the west side of the seawall.

Art of Craft DIY night!

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

I checked out the Art of Craft DIY night on April 9th at the
Museum of Vancouver. It was so much fun and I enjoyed making my very own felted bracelet and brooch made from fabric scarps and beads (pictured below…don’t laugh it took me like an hour to make!)

There was a great mini market put on by Rob and Andrea from Got Craft. Other DIY station included a collage making and a knit pit. I was excited to sip wine and listen to cool beats while I crafted too!

MakeShift

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Natalie Purschwitz is in the midst of completing a 365 day long project titled ‘MakeShift’. She is exploring the relationship between clothing and living, and is hoping to understand more about it in her everyday life. Until September 1rst, she will only wear things she has handmade from head to tow. Apparently she just got home from a trip to Mexico. . . she even made a pair of sunglasses!
